Marith
Role: High Preserver of Elymian Lore
Philosophy: Memory Must Not Be Disturbed
Physical Description:
Marith’s form is cloaked in dense violet and deep cerulean bioluminescence, their body more oval-shaped than the taller forms of the Council. Their movements are slow and deliberate, often accompanied by a low resonance hum. A delicate corona of light surrounds their head—a stabilising field reflecting their connection to ancient memory layers.
Personality Traits:
-
Unyielding: Marith is immovable on matters of tradition and memory sanctity.
-
Contemplative: Rarely speaks without first passing thoughts through inner harmonics.
-
Guarded: Trusts few, and even among the Council, speaks most often in riddled metaphor.
-
Devoted: Sees their duty as sacred—not to decide the future, but to protect the past.
Background:
Marith is the oldest member of the Elymian Council still active in corporeal form. They were among the last Dreambound of the Ver’Danna lattice and carry the raw imprint of the First Seal within their memory. Their voice was once part of the song that calmed the Earth’s first psychic fracture.
Role in the Story:
Marith stands as the spiritual counterbalance to Lyra’s progressive drive. While not openly opposing change, they demand that every step forward be checked against the reverberation it may cause across memory and spirit.
Strengths:
-
Embodies deep resonance memory
-
Can harmonise with unstable glyphs
-
Trusted guardian of First Seal lore
Weaknesses:
-
Resists necessary evolution
-
Speaks in abstraction, frustrating urgent discussions
-
Distrusts human influence on the Web
Key Relationships:
-
Kaelor: Mutual respect, but strained by philosophical differences
-
Lyra: Conflictual; Marith sees her as dangerously hasty
-
Azerin: A mystery to Marith—both a threat and a prophecy
Symbolism:
Marith symbolises memory unbroken—sacred continuity untouched by time. Their presence reminds the Council of what has been lost before through carelessness.
Notable Moments:
-
Interrupting a vote on glyph expansion by invoking ancestral recall
-
Singing down a collapsing memory node, alone
-
Refusing to acknowledge human “contribution” to the Web until witnessing Elena's echo-thread in the Council chamber
Character Quote:
“The Web remembers far more than you are prepared to carry. Ask not what it can give—ask what it still protects.”
